Do you want to protect your child’s smile? If so, our dentists, Drs. Kip Jones, Chad Wagstaff and Doug White, are happy to hear it! The stronger and healthier your child’s teeth and gums are, the better. Unfortunately, there are many things that can harm your child’s smile each day, but the good news is that there are things you can do to protect it. Those things are:
-Help them clean their smile: They should brush their teeth twice a day with a child-sized toothbrush and the appropriate toothpaste. If their teeth are tightly knit together, like if they have all their teeth, then it’s also important to floss daily. If they despise oral hygiene, you can try to make it fun by making it a family activity or letting them choose their favorite toothbrush and toothpaste!
-Consider dental sealants: Dental sealants are thin coatings that cover the teeth and keep bacteria and acid from harming the enamel. This can help prevent cavities and enamel erosion. Talk to your dentist and see if your child is a candidate for dental sealants today!
-Encourage the use of a mouthguard: If your child plays high-contact sports, then they should wear a mouthguard while doing so. The mouthguard can protect their teeth and gums while they play and help them prevent oral injuries.
